To provide families in our local community access to eye examinations and glasses.
To support schools through vision screenings to identify children who require visual aids.
To increase awareness to families about the importance of good vision and eye health for students learning.
To support families in need by providing glasses for children who require them to be effective at school.
What is available through this program:
No cost Primary School Vision screening services held annually in local schools.
Comprehensive Bulk Billed eye examinations in store for children.
Access for families who qualify for standard glasses FREE (referred through local aid agencies).
What does this program entail?
This year one of our goals has been to ensure all children in the region have easy access to vision services – eye exams, and if required, glasses. We have been rolling out a no charge school screening program where we attend schools and conduct full vision screenings for Year 1 children. We have identified this age group as this is the year that many reading, maths and writing concepts start, and having poor vision can effect the child’s ability to learn.
As part of this program we have found that many families either don’t have their children’s eyes tested, and some can’t afford to purchase glasses.
I have been working hard with our suppliers to try and resolve this issue and I am happy to let you know that we have 50 pairs of glasses that we can donate per year to children in crisis and need.
The process for the family to get these would be:
Referral from an aid organisation to us.
Eye test (which we bill to Medicare, if for some reason they don’t have a Medicare card we will do it at no charge).
From there they can choose from the selection of frames we have, and we will fit ZEISS UV protect single vision lenses all at no charge.
How can our school be involved?
Simply contact us to place your interest for your school to hold a vision screening. There is no cost involved to school or families. We do not require any Medicare cards, we are providing our time as a community service. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to screen a class of 30 children.
